The Brisbane Lions NEAFL side enjoyed it’s second huge win in a row on Saturday against the GWS GIANTS.
The 96-point victory helped lift the Lions to second on the ladder, and Development Coach Paul Henriksen said the win was made even more enjoyable by the way the team played together.
“It’s certainly really important for our group to put in four quarters of performance,” Henriksen said.
“What was more important was that instead of having just one or two players stand out every week, it seems to be a real mix of players who are standing up at different times.
“It wasn’t only a general team performance, it was all over the ground and really pleasing moving into the rest of the season.”
The win was soured by a serious ankle injury to Tom Bell who will be sidelined for a large chunk of football and potentially the rest of the season.
“It was probably about six or seven minutes where both sides stood in the middle of the ground [due to Bell’s injury],” Henriksen said.
“No doubt when we came back out after that break a number of players weren’t in a state to continue the game. It definitely had an influence on many of the players.
“To see him with that severe of an injury was upsetting for many.”
After two easy victories, the Lions travel to Sydney to take on the third placed Sydney University on Saturday, and Henriksen expects a much tougher battle for his side.
“Sydney University have been in terrific form. It’s a real challenge for us.”
“We haven’t had a trip for a while so we are really looking forward to heading down there and putting in a good performance.”
