Brisbane Lions List Manager Peter Schwab has said that the Club is not ‘adverse’ to trading the number two pick during the upcoming NAB AFL Trade period, but said the deal would need to be ‘outstanding.’
Speaking on SEN’s Breakfast show this morning, Schwab said the pick number 2 could be traded for two picks or even a player and a pick.
“I think it would have to be an outstanding deal to part with pick two,” Schwab said.
“We’re not adverse to looking at it.
“It could be two picks, it could be a pick and a player.
“At the moment we’re happy to hang on to it and see what happens.”
Swann: No. 2 pick is on the table
When asked about the speculation concerning the future of Captain Tom Rockliff, Schwab said that the first step will be getting Rockliff to have a conversation with Senior Coach Chris Fagan.
“I think the first step for Tom is that he needs to sit down with Chris and speak with him, and we’ll take it from there,” said Schwab.
"Tom knows that it may well be that a decision could be made that we part ways or there's a recommitment from both parties to keep going, because we know he's got great talent.”
It was much the same scenario with Hanley, 27, who has been linked to Gold Coast.
“Pearce has got a long term contract with us and I guess he and us are just exploring it,” Schwab said.
"I think Pearce, to be honest, is probably (suffering) a bit of losers' fatigue with Brisbane. He's been there a fair while and has been frustrated that we haven't had success. I think that's part of it.
"But we haven't categorically stated that we're going to get rid of Pearce at all. It's just an interest expressed from a few clubs because he's a good talent."
Schwab believes Hanley's value would be still high in the market place.
"His top-end performances are elite; it's just that he hadn't probably produced that to the degree he would like," he said.
"On that basis, he would require a significant draft pick for us."
Asked whether Gold Coast's pick No.8 would be the starting point, Schwab said: "That looks nice."
Schwab confirmed the Lions had committed to securing Collingwood's Jack Frost but were yet to decide on Melbourne veteran Lynden Dunn.
