Jess Wuetschner has made the longest journey of all to be part of the Brisbane Lions AFL Women's team.
A night on a barge, followed by the long drive up to Brisbane - it was an epic journey, but it was worth it according to Wuetschner.
“The move up from Tassie has been really good," Wuetschner told Lions TV.
"I took a little while to drive up here as I wanted to bring my car, but it’s been really good and I can’t thank the girls and everyone at the Lions enough for making sure that I’m all settled in and ready to go for pre-season and making sure that I feel completely welcomed.”
The Women’s team is currently in their third week of training, and Wuetschner believes the team is really stepping up.

“Training tonight was really good, I think we really stepped up from a tough session on Monday. Even though it was really hot and humid conditions, everyone stepped up and did a really good job,” she said.
A focused individual with a passion to succeed, when asked what her focus is for the inaugural AFL Women's pre-season, she said: “My focus this pre-season is obviously to keep building my fitness and my skills, but mainly just getting to know everyone in the club and how they play so I can fit in and play my role to the best of my ability.”
With the Lions' strong forward line a talking point of the drafting process, she hopes to add her reliable left foot to the forward 50.
“I think our forward line will shape up pretty well, we’ve obviously got two key forwards in there in Sabrina Frederick-Traub and Tayla Harris, so it's pretty exciting to be playing with them," she said.
"We’ve got a couple of small guns like Nikki Wallace and Shaleise law. I’m excited to get involved in that forward line.”
Wuetschner might be experiencing her hottest late December to date in sunny Queensland, with new work commitments that might keep her in the sunshine state over her break. But her plans are undecided.
“My plans for Christmas this year haven’t quiet been decided. I just got another job which starts around that time so a bit unsure but I am hoping to go down to see the family for a couple days over Christmas but I’ll have to cross my fingers for that one,” she explained.
