Assistant Coach Danny Daly said the Lions’ past fortnight of football had undone some of their good early-season work.
“Hopefully there’s still a lot of belief around in terms of where we’re going and where we’re heading because we are on the right path,” Daly told LionsTV in this week’s Vero Coaches Wrap.
“Our first six weeks and probably the first quarter against Port Adelaide was really positive for us and we let ourselves down in the last game and the last three quarters before that.”
In the first half against Collingwood, the Lions conceded 28 scoring shots to three, and trailed by 65 points at the main break – the final margin 78 points.
“We want to see a unit that goes out this week with an attitude of hunting the football, hunting the opposition.
“Contested football is number one and what comes from that comes from that.
“It’s really important for our group, our NEAFL players, everyone, that we don’t put that performance on again.
“It’s unacceptable, it’s unacceptable as a playing group and it’s not right for our supporters and members who come and watch us and put their hard-earned money into the Club.
“We’ve got a real emphasis this week in coming out and hard as we can.
“We’re confident we can match it with Melbourne.”

Daly commended the effort of first-year player Ben Keays in just his third game for the Club.
“Obviously there wasn’t a great deal that went well but young Ben Keays has been really good for a young kid to come in and play his role each week.
“He had a lot of contested footy. His tackling has been really good. He just brings some energy in the forward line.
“That’s the path we’re going down. Bringing some young kids into the side, hopefully they can play their roles and it’s the future of our football club.”
