The Brisbane Lions will honour the ANZACS in 2016, wearing a commemorative guernsey during their Round 5 clash against the Western Bulldogs at Etihad Stadium on Saturday.
The guernsey has been designed to not only pay tribute to our fallen armed personnel, family and friends, but also celebrates the Club's long standing partnership with the Australian Armed Forces, particularly the 7th Brigade stationed at Enoggera ARMY Base in Brisbane.
Vice-Captain Daniel Rich along with defender Daniel McStay, Brigadier Adam Findlay and Capt. Robert Frankland unveiled the jumper in front of media today at the Enoggera ARMY base.
“It’s a huge honour to represent the 7th Brigade,” said Rich.
“We use the term we’re going into battle week in and week out but they go to battle the proper way and not only represent themselves and Brisbane but protect Australia at the same time.”
The unique design of the guernsey is an evolution of the Club's current clash design, featuring a poppy pattern set against the camouflage background, and emblazoned with the Australian Army Rising Sun and 7th Brigade logos on its front for just the third time in Club history. The Australian flag appears within the locker tag, whilst 'Lest We Forget' is proudly inscribed on the back yolk, along with a verse from the Ode.
