Redden, who played 129 games in seven years for the Club, requested a trade in early September and was due to become a free agent at the end of next season.

Leuenberger nominates Bombers

Restricted Free Agent, Matthew Leuenberger, has nominated Essendon as his preferred Club of choice.

The Bombers lodged the official paperwork with the AFL yesterday and will now wait to see if the Lions choose to match the offer and force Essendon to negotiate a trade.

Bombers List and Recruiting Manager Adrian Dodoro confirmed the lodgement on the club’s website.

“Matthew has indicated he’d like to play with us next year.

“We think he’ll provide a really good combination with Tommy Bellchambers, he’s a stoppage ruckman, he’s a genuine 203-204cm and gives us an opportunity to replace Paddy Ryder which we never really had the opportunity to do.”

It is understood Leuenberger has been offered a three-year deal by the Bombers.

He was originally drafted with pick No.4 from East Perth in the WAFL in the 2006 NAB AFL Draft, playing 108 games for the Lions over nine seasons.

According to the AFL, Leuenberger’s financial terms and age (27), in addition to his original draft placement (No.4), will be taken into account when formulating the Lions' compensation.

The Lions have 72 hours to make a decision.

Updated National Draft Order

The Lions now hold picks 2, 17, and 21 inside the first two rounds of the National Draft.

The Club also have picks 39 (round 3), 57 (round 4), 75 (round 5) and 93 (round 6).

(Order subject to change throughout the NAB AFL Trade Period).

The draft will be held in Adelaide on Tuesday, November 24.
