ASSISTANT COACH Murray Davis says that the Lions’ list of young players will learn from the experience of Sunday’s loss to Essendon.
The Lions hung tight and were just five points down at the main break in an impressive display, before the Bombers kicked 12 goals to the Lions’ 4 in the second half at Etihad Stadium.
“Last week against Port Adelaide when Jed Adcock went off the ground, I think our average age was 19 ½ and 20 games of experience.”
“It wasn’t too dissimilar on the weekend against Essendon, they’re learning lots of good lessons along the way and that comes with experience as well. That’s why the team element is so important that we support those younger guys in defence,” Davis said.
“Our first half we were able to do some good things, and probably our last quarter at times we fought it out. That’s really important that despite what the scoreboard says that we always play with intensity and we did have elements of that in our game.”
“The things that are within our control, whether they be free kicks against or the way that we own the ball and what we do with the ball, they’re the things we spoke about as a coaching group.”
