In accepting his Members’ Player of the Year Award at the Lions' Club Champion evening, Stefan Martin, has thanked fans and Members for their support during a difficult year for the Club.
“The members we’ve got, not just in Brisbane but in Melbourne are pretty spectacular.
“I can remember a few games down in Melbourne, sitting bottom of the ladder, and to have them turn out and watch us get thumped at Etihad and then they’d wait around for an hour, two hours post game so they can come and see us, it’s pretty special”, Martin said.
“It’s a great sign that we’ve got a lot of heart around this Club.”
Votes for the Members' Player of the Year Awarded are voted for after each game with 3 votes given to the player voters deem to be the best Brisbane Lions player for that game, 2 votes to the second best player and 1 vote to the third best player.
There are a maximum of 100 points per game that can be awarded to the entire team and each player is then given a percentage of the total votes received to go towards their season tally (eg. if 1,200 votes were placed in Round 1 and X player receives 600, then that is the equivalent of 50% of all votes for that round so X player would receive 50 points towards his season tally).
Interestingly, Dayne Beams was leading until the final round when Stefan Martin took over to claim the title.
The final leaderboard
1. Stefan Martin (315 votes)
2. Dayne Beams (289 votes)
3. Mitch Robinson (222 votes)
4. Dayne Zorko (213 votes)
5. Tom Rockliff (137 votes)
