Lions.com.au wraps up the latest player movements for the Club on day two of the 2015 Trade Period.
Lions offered Pick No. 39 for Leuenberger
The Brisbane Lions announced yesterday afternoon the Club had been informed by the AFL that compensation for losing Matthew Leuenberger to Essendon as a restricted free agent would be pick No.39 in this year's National Draft.
Lions CEO Greg Swann said the Club was disappointed at the AFL’s decision, and may now look to match the offer from Essendon for the ruckman.
“He was a first round draft pick and at his best a strong contender for All-Australian selection, so we would expect better than what we have been offered as compensation,” Swann said.
The Club now has until Thursday afternoon to inform the AFL whether they will match the offer.
If the Lions match the Bombers’ offer, Essendon can try to broker a trade for Leuenberger, who has played 108 senior games since his debut in 2007.
