Stoppage Strategy Coach, Danny Daly, says there were plenty of encouraging signs from the young group of Lions that fell 30-points short of Greater Western Sydney on Sunday.
“It’s always disappointing to lose a game of football, obviously. We went out there with the attitude that we wanted to win the game.
“In saying that, it was a very young group, we had out there with a lot of inexperienced players. I think our average played games was 40 compared to 80 (GWS).
“Some of younger blokes went really well, some of our ball movement at times was quite good. From a stoppage point of view we let ourselves down a little bit in the second quarter but there were some encouraging signs moving forward”, Daly said.
“We had Hugh Beasley playing his first game and Bourkey who has come in for his second game.
“We had Clarkey who has played less than 50 games. Our backline was really undermanned up against a marking forward line like GWS had, with (Jeremy) Cameron down there and (Cameron) McCarthy.
“Those kids put up a terrific effort, I think they showed, especially the younger guys (Bourke and Beasley) that they can play senior football and they will have a good future for the football club.”

The players will have a four day break with the bye this weekend and will return next week with a firm focus on the Western Bulldogs.
“We have a bit of training today and one on one half yearly reviews with the boys. Tomorrow we’ll have a bit of a hit out on the training track for a couple of hours and then they’re off on a four day break.
“They’ll all be doing different things, going away, spending time with their families and will come back on Monday, we’ll do our game review and then it’s training as normal for the game against the Bulldogs.
“I think the boys are looking for a bit of a rest, it’s been a big half year for us. We’ve used 40 players this year already. They need a bit of time away to regroup and refresh and come back ready to go for the second half of the year.”
