A regular visitor to the Lions’ social club, Patricia was among the thousands of LIONS@springwood members who qualified for the draw held on Sunday 9 June, but was agonisingly close to not being present at the venue when her name was read out.
She and her husband had only just arrived back from a getaway, and with post-holiday fatigue setting in, they decided to stay at home and relax rather than head to LIONS@springwood and witness the draw.
After all, what were the chances that her name would be pulled out for the major prize?
A late change of heart just 20 minutes before the draw saw Patricia dash to the social club in time to have special guest Matthew Leuenberger announce her as the winner of a brand new Hyundai i20.
Patricia said the news took some time to sink in.
“When my name was called, I stood there. I couldn’t move and my husband said ‘you better run’ and I realized it was true,” Patricia said.
“I tried to run and I didn’t know where I was going, there were so many people and they all moved aside for me.”
It proved a worthy reward for one of LIONS@springwood’s most loyal patrons.
“We visit the club on a regular basis for the variety it offers – we have dinner there regularly, play pool, keno, play the pokies, and watch sports,” she said.
“I want to thank everyone at the LIONS@springwood, everyone has been so great every time we are at the club.”
