Brisbane Lions trio Josh Drummond, Mitch Clark and Tom Rockliff have been elevated to the Lions' leadership group for 2011, Senior Coach Michael Voss announced today.

Drummond, Clark and Rockliff will join Captain Jonathan Brown, Daniel Merrett and Jed Adcock in the Lions' leadership group.

The trio's elevation to the leadership group was announced at the Gabba today.

Voss said that the three players brought a range of outstanding qualities that made them ideal to be among the Lions leaders.

"As a group, we have spent a lot of time and energy ensuring the promotion and development of the next crop of leaders at the Club," Voss said.

"It was important for the team that we did that. This is about the next generation of Brisbane Lions taking ownership of the team and we've seen some terrific signs of that during the pre-season."

27-year-old Drummond is most experienced of the three new leaders with 72 senior games, while 21-year-old Rockliff is the youngest in only his third season with the Club.

"Tom Rockliff, while one of the younger guys in the group, constantly displays outstanding leadership among the group and to make him officially part of the leadership group was a fairly straightforward decision for us," Voss said.

"Likewise, Mitch Clark is entering his sixth season here at the Lions and over that time has established himself as one of the leaders of the group."

"Josh Drummond, at 27, has long served in a mentoring role to the younger guys who have come through, and we felt that he was deserving of that official recognition of being elevated to the leadership group."

"We feel that we've got an outstanding group of leaders at this Club."

The chance to inject fresh faces into the Club's leadership group arose after Luke Power and Simon Black elected to take on a mentor role for the Club's young players.

Brown said he had every confidence in the new leaders surrounding him.

"We're a new team about to head into a new season and I've got great belief in the guys that are surrounding me," he said.

"Now it's about getting out there on Saturday against Fremantle and demonstrating that on the field."
