Brisbane vice-captain Harris Andrews says there's no chance the Lions will rest on their laurels, admitting they "didn't really achieve too much" despite playing finals for the first time in a decade in 2019.
The Lions wrapped up pre-Christmas training on Thursday morning with a two-and-a-half-hour session at their Yeronga training base, and Andrews says Chris Fagan's team is hungrier than ever to improve.
"We didn't really achieve too much last year," he said.
"The ultimate goal is to win a premiership and we weren't able to do that.
"There's a real hunger in the group to make sure we come back better and were in good shape when we came back for pre-season, and no doubt that will go through the Christmas break and into the new year."
After roaring from 15th place on the ladder in 2018 all the way to second last season, Brisbane bowed out of the finals with successive losses to Richmond and Greater Western Sydney.
Andrews said the playing group got together prior to their off-season break to reinforce the importance of working hard before they came back to train.
It seems to have worked, with high performance manager Damien Austin telling the players that collectively they were running faster and lifting heavier in this pre-season than last.
"Since Fages got to the club we've been striving for constant improvement," Andrews said.
"If every player improves by two or three percent, as a group we're only going to get better.
"We're not coming out saying what can happen next year and what can't, we'll just worry about what we can control."
