Jed Adcock has publicly declared that he would “love” to be appointed Lions’ Co-Captain this season alongside Jonathan Brown.

However, Adcock knows the Club faces a difficult decision with a number of genuine candidates vying for the vacant leadership role.

“If the position came up for me, I’d love to do it,” Adcock told the media at Saturday’s Family Fun Day at Yeronga.

“In saying that, there are a really good crop of players that could take that role.”

Adcock, who turned 28 late last year, has emerged as one of the favourites to fill the permanent position – along with teammates Daniel Rich, 22, and Tom Rockliff, 22.

He is clearly the most experienced candidate, having already proven capable of performing the on-field captaincy duties in recent seasons when Brown has been sidelined.

The final decision will likely depend on whether the Club opts for a more ‘ready-made’ skipper, or a younger player who currently displays great leadership potential and can develop into the role over time.

Either way, Adcock said he would fully support the Club’s final verdict.

“If it happens to be me, it happens to be me. If it’s a younger guy, that’s all good as well,” Adcock said.

“It probably all depends on where the Club is at and where the Club wants to go in the future with their leadership.”

The Club is still in the process of selecting Brown’s Co-Captain, but remains hopeful of filling the role before the team’s first round of NAB Cup matches on Saturday 23 February.
