In his 25 years in football administration Lions CEO Greg Swann has never encountered an event like Covid-19. With so much uncertainty surrounding society and the game at large, Swann praised the Lions members for their support over such a challenging time.
For the moment the Club will be playing both men’s and women’s games in empty stadiums, with members having to watch the match from the comfort of their living room.
“Our members have been fantastic,” Swann told media via videolink earlier this morning.
Swann said the Club will be in contact with members over the coming weeks with a further update on the situation.
“The majority have already come back to us and said ‘fine, no problem, there’s no rush for us getting our money back,’” Swann said.
“It’s a credit to them and we’re really rapt with how it’s panned out.”
The Lions men’s team have continued training as per normal, with all players hitting the track at Yeronga earlier this morning.
The Club have enforced some health and safety practices for the next few weeks.
“Effectively they’ve been told to keep within their own groups and not to go to pubs or nightclubs and that,” Swann said.
“Hygiene, washing their hands and all those types of things.
“So far, so good. They’ve made some adjustments.”
