It started with a simple idea to reward 2015 members, and culminated in 6 players, 9 members, 3 Hyundais, 8 staff, multiple locations, a media op, 30 degree heat, and 30 odd gifts to deliver.

Christmas is the time for giving - and with so many renewing members and new members jumping on board since memberships went on sale in October, the Club wanted to give back to a few of their loyal members. Between busy pre-season training schedules, Lions players including Daniel Rich, Dayne Beams, Daniel Merrett, Michael Close, Nick Robertson and Jack Redden, used their afternoon off to personally thank a handful of members.

The eight lucky members were selected at random when signing up for their 2015 membership, and were asked a series of ‘random’ questions by the Brisbane Lions Membership team designed to find out what they loved most about coming to games, a few of their favourite things to eat and drink, preferred pastimes, and a number of other rewards we could give to thank them.

Once a shortlist was made from this group, it was time to find out where those members would be on the day of our visits, and how the Lions could surprise them. Be it home, office, golf course, or footy field – every member who was paid a visit found a very welcome surprise awaiting them in two Brisbane Lions players bearing gifts. Two lucky members even got a signed boot from Richy!

Thanks to the support of the Lions Shop, and partners including Hyundai, Four’N Twenty, Powerhouse, and the Pineapple Hotel, players were able to deliver not just a personal thank you to the selected members, but also a gift chosen just for them. The biggest thank you though, undoubtedly goes to all current 2015 members who Believe and Belong.
