There was no early holiday for the Brisbane Lions Reserves players, despite their 2014 NEAFL campaign officially coming to a close last Saturday in Sydney.
Even though many of last week’s NEAFL team had played their final match of the season, they were still required to front up to training and prepare themselves as though it was any other week.
“We trained them with the rest of the group,” O’Donnell told lions.com.au.
“Some trained with the senior squad, and other trained separately.
“They were all still fully required to keep training and not de-condition themselves.”
As it turned out, four of last week’s NEAFL team – Matthew Leuenberger, Zac O’Brien, Jackson Paine, and first-gamer Jordon Bourke – were recalled to the senior side and will face Geelong this Saturday night at Simonds Stadium.
They replace Ash McGrath (retired), Matt Maguire (ankle), Ryan Harwood (foot), and Michael Close (omitted).
Meanwhile, emergencies Nick Robertson, Ryan Lester, and Mitch Golby will remain on high alert in case there happens to be any last minute changes.
This Saturday marks the Lions’ final match of the year, although the players’ end-of-season break won’t officially commence until after the Club Champion Dinner on Friday 5 September.
