Few people have shown greater pride in their playing jumper than Brisbane Lions Legend Kevin Murray.
After all, Murray represented Fitzroy a record 333 times throughout his illustrious career, and to this day still bleeds maroon, blue and gold at the ripe old age of 76.
Throughout his time at Fitzroy, Murray wore three different guernsey designs – although his name is largely synonymous with the predominantly maroon jumper with the white ‘FFC’ monogram which he wore in 16 of his 18 VFL seasons.
He played his first season in a design featuring a blue ‘FFC’ monogram, while his last was when the red Fitzroy guernsey with gold ‘FFC’ monogram was introduced.
Murray told lions.com.au that each guernsey forms a special part of his football history.
“When I first started at Fitzroy in 1955, we worn the maroon FFC logo, and I’ve still got that very first jumper.” Murray said.
“When it changed to white the following year, it was pretty exciting. The old one had been in for quite a long time, so it was nice getting a new jumper.
“My father, Dan, played in a different jumper altogether with Fitzroy in the 30s.”
Much like the majority of Lions fans, Murray was excited to see the return of the Club’s original post-merger guersey famously worn during the 3-Peat premiership success from 2001-2003.
Having experienced a change in jumper himself, he is certain that it will help give the young players, in particular, a significant boost ahead of the 2015 season.
“Our boys played in four straight Grand Finals wearing this jumper, and now these youngsters will be playing in it and representing all those former champions,” he said.
“These boys will walk 10 feet taller in that jumper. It should mean a lot to them.”
A number of Lions fans have already flocked to buy their new-look guernsey at the discounted price of $90 (adult) and $80 (junior) by signing up as a 2015 member.
The member exclusive price is still available to those who sign up before 12 December 2014.
