The Brisbane Lions have listed their second Youi Brisbane Lions Academy player in as many days, selecting Ty Gallop on the final night of the 2024 Telstra AFL Draft.
Gallop was selected by the Lions with Pick 42 after matching a bid from Geelong.
The 194-centimetre key forward from the Maroochydore Football Club was the QAFL Rookie of the Year and represented the Allies in the national championships.
Gallop has also already pulled on the maroon, blue and gold jumper after playing for the Lions in their VFL Preliminary Final this year.
Brisbane Lions National Recruiting Manager, Stephen Conole said Gallop has put in plenty of hard yards to earn his spot on the club’s AFL list.
“Ty joining the Brisbane Lions is a great story,” Conole said
“He has worked hard on his game through his time in the Youi Brisbane Academy and playing for Maroochydore in the QAFL.
“Continued to improve with each outing and was rewarded with the QAFL Rookie of the year award and representing our VFL team in their Preliminary Final game.
“Ty is a powerful, competitive key position forward whose skill set is well matched for the role - strong hands, reads the drop of the ball well, and presents with purpose at the ball carrier.
“We look forward to seeing Ty’s growth as a Brisbane Lions player.”
The Queensland local said he was still pinching himself after joining the reigning premier, and getting to stay in his home state is an added bonus.
Gallop is not the only one excited about season 2025 and beyond.
The Lions and its fans will look forward to seeing the teenager develop over the coming years as he builds on his big marking and ability to find the goals regularly.
“It’s a very surreal feeling and a moment I have dreamed about all my life, I am so excited to be a Lion,” Gallop said.
“It’s great to join a premiership club and having so many great forwards and experienced players at the Lions makes it a very exciting environment to come into.
“I have put a lot of work in this year, and It’s been an awesome journey of ups and downs to get to the draft. It feels like all the hard work and training has paid off.
“I know I still have so much more room for growth and can’t wait to see where my career goes.
“Now that the draft is over, I am excited to start working with the boys and ripping in to a big preseason to put myself in the best position to play AFL.”.
