The Brisbane Lions might have signalled their intention to draft each of Josh Clayton, Liam Dawson, and Harris Andrews under the provisions of the Father-Son and Academies Rule, however their passage to the Club is far from guaranteed.
Rival clubs will still have the opportunity to bid on the services of Clayton, Dawson, and Andrews from 10am this Monday 6 October – immediately prior to the commencement of the NAB AFL Trade Period.
The Lions will, however, have the final say in whether their nominated player will don the maroon, blue and gold next season.
The Lions will head into Monday’s Bidding Meeting with picks 4 (first round), 24 (second round), 41 (third round), 60 (fourth round), 78 (fifth round), 96 (sixth round), and 114 (seventh round).
The bidding process will work as follows:
Each other club in the competition has the option to bid, in reverse ladder order, for the nominated players.
If a bid is made, the Club that nominated the Father-Son or Academy player must use its next available selection if it wishes to retain its hold on the player.
If a Club nominating the Father-Son or Academy player declines to match the selection nominated, the Club with the successful bid must use that selection at the NAB AFL Draft to select the player.
Any Club that makes a successful bid on a Father-Son or Academy selection is bound to the selection they nominate.
If no bid is made by another Club, the Club that nominated the Father-Son or Academy eligible player will forfeit its last selection in the NAB AFL Draft to select the player.
Please note that the compensation selections that have been activated by the Clubs for the upcoming 2014 NAB AFL Draft are not part of the bidding process.
