Lions.com.au takes a closer look at some of the statistics from the team’s Round 18 match against Port Adelaide at AAMI Stadium.
Intercepts
They might not get the same plaudits as their midfield or forward teammates, but Joel Patfull and Elliot Yeo were critical in keeping the Lions in the contest on Sunday.
With Port Adelaide pumping the ball inside 50m 15 more times than the Lions, the visitors’ backline was under constant pressure.
But Patfull proved a rock in defence with a team-high nine marks, and six intercepts (four of which were contested). Yeo was just as effective with four marks from opposition kicks (three contested).
Disposal efficiency
Joel Patfull also used the ball better than any other Lions player on Sunday, and finished with a disposal efficiency rate of 94.1%.
Among all Lions players who have played at least five senior games this season, Patfull ranks third in disposal efficiency (78.3%), behind Ryan Harwood (83.2%) and Jed Adcock (79.8%).
Scoreboard impact
Jonathan Brown and Dayne Zorko might have led the way up forward on Sunday with two goals apiece, Daniel Rich had the greatest scoreboard impact of any player against Port Adelaide.
Although Rich was kept relatively quiet by Port tagger Kane Cornes, he still contributed three goal assists.
Rock in the midfield
Tom Rockliff has been generating some big numbers this month since being given a more regular role in the Lions’ midfield.
Rockliff was the team’s leading possession-getter for the third straight week last Sunday when he racked up 28 touches. The 2011 Club Champion has now averaged 30 disposals over his past three matches.
He has also won 25 clearances over this time – including a game-high 10 against the Power – which is clearly more than any of his Lions teammates.
Free Kicks
The Lions lost the free kick count 22-11 against Port Adelaide last Sunday, making it the seventh straight match they had lost the count – and 12th of 17 in total.
The Lions have conceded the most free kicks in the League (355) – which is 85 more than Collingwood who have given away the least.
The Lions have the dubious honour of having conceded the most goals (15) from 50m penalties this season – 33% more than second-placed St Kilda.

Below is a list of the Lions’ top five AFL Fantasy performers from last weekend:
