The Brisbane Lions are preparing for their most competitive hitout for the summer this Thursday, when the squad is split into two teams for an official intra-club match.

The match will be slightly modified into three terms, and will be open for the general public to attend.

It will be a particularly important occasion for the Club’s younger players, who have an opportunity to push their case for selection in the Lions’ upcoming NAB Cup campaign.

“We’ve had a couple of match simulation-type sessions at training, but this will be the first official intra-club I suppose,” Assistant Coach Gary O’Donnell told LIONSTV.

“I’m not sure how long it will go for, it might be a shortened game, but certainly the intensity will pick up.”

“Hopefully we see some things we’ve been trying to work on in the pre-season come out in that game.”

Fans are encouraged to come along and witness the clash, which is scheduled to start at 8am at Coorparoo.

Although the final teams are yet to be determined, there are some fascinating match-ups which could eventuate, such as; Brown v Merrett, Redden v Rockliff, Moloney v Black, and Longer v Leuenberger.
