ON THE eve of Saturday night's QClash, Guy McKenna has launched an extraordinary attack on young Lion Dayne Zorko, saying the Suns have better players.

Zorko took the AFL by storm in 2012, playing 16 games, averaging 20 disposals per match and kicking 16 goals.

A Broadbeach player in the AFLQ, he was recruited by the Suns in 2011 as a Queensland zone selection but was then on-traded and did not spend any time at Carrara.

"We interviewed him, we looked at him, we thought our squad going forward was going to have better players," McKenna said.

"We're still of that opinion.

"He's done very well for Brisbane and good luck to him."

Lions coach Michael Voss bit back during a concurrent training session being held 70km up the Pacific Motorway.

Voss said he was delighted to have his 2012 rookie of the year.

"I'm very comfortable they chose not to recruit him too. We're both happy aren't we?" Voss said.

Zorko won four best and fairests for Broadbeach before joining the AFL.

In what has been a fairly quiet week in the build-up to the fifth edition of the QClash, McKenna's ire has suddenly risen.

Voss said earlier in that both clubs didn't like each other and Gold Coast no longer had any on-field excuses.

McKenna said on Friday: "I can't speak for them but if they're naught and two (wins and losses) they've probably got to speak about something.

"You can't get caught up in what people think of you and what people say of you."

Voss said it was about time the Suns carried some expectation.

"Third year in, top draft picks … As a club we've carried that extra weight [of favourites] coming into these games, [but] I don't think that exists any more.

"We have to play with a level of freedom. Carrying that weight of everything to lose and another team having nothing to lose, I think that's well and truly gone."
