Brisbane Lions fans will be thrilled to hear that Jonathan Brown has no plans to hang up the boots anytime in the near future.
Brown reveals his intentions during the first instalment of the Club’s two-part television special – Inside the Pride – which premieres on 7mate in Queensland at 12.00pm this Saturday 30 March.
Inside the Pride will also be broadcast simultaneously on the Lions’ YouTube Channel for national and international viewers.
It is the first time that Brown has spoken candidly about the prospect of retirement.
“I’ve not specifically been thinking about it, but I’m fully aware that I’m in the twilight of my career,” Brown tells Inside the Pride host, and former premiership teammate, Jamie Charman.
“I’m at the stage of my career where I’m just happy to play a year at a time. Hopefully I’m still enjoying my footy at the end of every year and keep playing.”
Brown admits that the decision will ultimately be based on his on-field performances and overall enjoyment of the game.
“I’ll keep playing as long as Vossy wants me around,” he says.
“Obviously a fair bit of it revolves around your performance still being up to scratch.”
“The other one is your enjoyment of footy, and the way you’re going to get that is if you’re having team success.”
“As long as I see that we’re still improving as a Club, and we’re starting to get towards Finals, I’ll be enjoying my footy.”
The first episode of ‘Inside the Pride’ will air on 7mate in Queensland this Saturday 30 March, and on the Lion’s YouTube channel simultaneously for national an international viewers.
