Brisbane Lions co-captain Jed Adcock, ruckman Matthew Leuenberger and Pearce Hanley are set to return to action when the Lions travel to Wagga Wagga this weekend for Round 2 of the NAB Cup.
The Lions this afternoon announced an unplaced squad of 24 players to take on the Giants in this Saturday’s clash, as they look to remain unbeaten in this year’s pre-season competition.
Adcock, Hanley and Leuenberger will be welcome additions to a team that will be without a host of players from NAB Cup Round 1 – including Daniel Rich, Daniel Merrett, Joel Patfull, Ash McGrath, Andrew Raines and Jordan Lisle.
Lions fans will be particularly looking forward to seeing Leuenberger in action for the first time since an Achilles injury sidelined him in Round 3 2012 for the remainder of the season.
The squad to play in Wagga has a mix of youth – including Billy Longer, Sam Docherty, and Marco Paparone – and experience, with 100-plus gamers Matt Maguire, Brent Moloney and Adcock all named.
Seven other players – Hanley, Stefan Martin, Todd Banfield, Leuenberger, Jack Redden, James Polkinghorne and Tom Rockliff – all have more than 50 senior AFL games to their names.
Lions fans will be able to watch a live stream of the match, courtesy of GIANTS TV.
