The Vodafone Brisbane Lions will once again honour their rich history by wearing the most recently worn Fitzroy jumper against West Coast in round 14 as part of
The jumper will feature the yellow Fitzroy Football Club emblem on its front and is the same design as the one worn by Fitzroy for their final match in 1996.
Since the AFL’s Heritage Round was introduced in 2003, the Lions have paid homage to their past by wearing a range of traditional Guernsey’s including an older-style Fitzroy Guernsey, the most recent Brisbane Bears Guernsey and the jumper worn by the Bears in the late 1980’s.
The club is also delighted to announce that the team will wear the last Fitzroy jumper for a second time this season in round 19 against Hawthorn at the MCG prior to the Kings of the Pride reunion function.
The Kings of the Pride reunion function promises to be one of the largest scale reunions of VFL/AFL players ever and will acknowledge every player that has taken to the field for the Fitzroy Football Club, the Brisbane Bears and the Brisbane Lions. Every Fitzroy, Bears and Brisbane Lions player will be invited to attend this monumental event which will be held at the Melbourne Convention Centre on Saturday 11 August.
Members and supporters will also be invited to take a trip down memory lane with some of their all-time favourite players and even catch-up with some of their current Lions heroes.
The event will identify the 10 best players from the different eras of the Club’s history as voted on by the players themselves. The Club’s 10 best players will be decided from the following categories:
1896 – 1926 (Fitzroy) *two players
1927 – 1956 (Fitzroy) *two players
1957 – 1966 (Fitzroy)
1967 – 1976 (Fitzroy)
1977 – 1986 (Fitzroy)
1987 – 1996 (Fitzroy)
1987 – 1996 (Brisbane Bears)
1997 – 2006 (Brisbane Lions)
