Den Diary: Pearce Hanley
It’s been a while since we’ve beaten a team above us on the ladder away from home
They are an inexperienced side, and were without some of their more promising younger lads, but we still came away pleased with how we went about things.
Our forward set-up worked as well as it has all year, with big ‘Rog’ providing a big target at full-forward, which allowed Browny to roam across centre half-forward and take 16 marks.
The big fellas ended up kicking 12 goals between them, and even Tom Rockliff got into the action when he went forward with three goals from seven shots.
From a backline perspective, we simply wanted to make scoring difficult for the opposition - so were happy to hold them to just five goals.
Considering we had bled some pretty big scores over the previous three weeks, it was a good result.
This Sunday is another big game for our Club.
We’re playing at a venue that probably hasn’t been a happy hunting ground for us in recent times, against a team that is above us on the ladder.
It’s been a while since we’ve beaten a team above us on the ladder away from home. The last time I can remember was over in Adelaide last year when we had a good win against the Crows.
We might be going in as rank underdogs against the Kangaroos, but remain confident of causing an upset and gathering further momentum as we head towards the Round 11 Bye.
