Daniel Merrett says the Lions will be fighting for respect heading into the last games of the season.
With a tough assignment against the second-placed Crows this Saturday at the Gabba, Merrett said the Lions know that they have a point to prove.
“I think the last couple of weeks have been really disappointing and we just want to build a bit of character back in the team and finish our season strong,” Merrett said.
“It’s a massive challenge with the Crows coming up here - they’re in good form and they play here really well, but I think we match up well on them.”
“They’re fighting for their top-two position and a home final, but we’re fighting for a bit of respect.”
“I think it’s just a matter of the pride of our group to be able to fight the year out and not concede, and make sure we put in a good effort for our supporters and the Club in general.”
The Crows are in red-hot form - their midfield leads the league in clearances, ruckman Sam Jacobs is number 1 in hitouts to advantage , and twin towers Kurt Tippett and Taylor Walker have so far combined for 75 goals - and Merrett knows that the Lions will have to be on their game in all areas of the ground.
“They’ve pretty much got the whole field covered with their positions - they’re solid,” he said.
“With guys like Dangerfield running through their midfield and getting it down to their forwards - and they’ve got some great forwards - it’s a very dangerous team and very hard over the ball.”
