Lions ruckman Mitch Clark has been voted by Lions fans on the Club’s online poll as the best valued ruckman in the AFL Dream Team competition.
The 22 year-old received 40% of the supporter votes ahead of Matthew Leuenberger (33%) and Jamie Charman (25%) who both present excellent value in this year’s fantasy football competition.
But it’s little wonder why Clark is so popular among Dream Teamers.
He was the number one ranked Dream Team ruckman across the competition in total points last year (2077) and finished strongly averaging over 117 points in the final seven weeks of the regular season. Only team-mates Luke Power (2107) and Jonathan Brown (2082) scored more points last year.
The 2010 NAB Cup AFL Record says of Clark: “One of the finds of 2009. With his athleticism, mobility and spring, Clark was a revelation, playing every game to finish third in the best and fairest and narrowly missing All-Australian selection.”
In his first pre-season hitout for the year last Friday against Carlton, Clark once again showed why he is likely to feature in most AFL Dream Teams in 2010.
He had 18 hitouts, collected 18 disposals, took seven marks and laid four tackles on his way to a team-high 97 points. In fact, it remains the highest Dream Team total of any Lions player so far in the Club’s pre-season campaign.
At $414,800, Clark is one of the more expensive ruckman in the Dream Team competition, but presents a worthwhile investment.
Matthew Leuenberger ($202,100) and Jamie Charman ($169,900) also present great Dream Team value although Charman’s recent injury setback may have fantasy football coaches thinking twice about selecting the Lions’ premiership ruckman.
Another player who has thrust himself into the Dream Team spotlight is young midfielder/forward Tom Rockliff who has impressed with his early pre-season form.
Rockliff scored 89 Dream Team points last Friday against the Blues after impressing with 87 points in the Club’s opening NAB Cup match against the Western Bulldogs in Canberra.
Plenty of eyes were also on new recruit Matt Maguire last weekend as he earned 70 Dream Team points in his first official match with his new Club while Albert Proud scored 81 points courtesy of a team-high nine tackles.
The highest Lions Dream Team point averages so far this pre-season are as follows:
1. Mitch Clark - 97 points (1 game)
2. Tom Rockliff - 88 points (2 games)
3. Albert Proud - 81 points (1 game)
4. Michael Rischitelli - 79 points (2 games)
5. Jonathan Brown - 71 points (1 game)
