Football: A big five days for the Lions to open 2012. An away game at the MCG against Melbourne and former teammate Mitch Clark will be followed just five days later by the now-traditional Easter Thursday home game against Carlton at the Gabba. For the first time since 2005, the Lions make two trips to Perth, facing Fremantle in round three and West Coast in round 18. The Lions play their early-season home games at night to avoid the heat and of the 2011 finalists, only play the Blues and the Eagles twice. Three six-day breaks are also on the schedule for the Lions.
Business: Carlton, Geelong and Collingwood all visit the Gabba in 2012, great for the Lions' bottom line. The Q-Clash with the Suns in round four should also guarantee close to a full house. Six games in Melbourne (four at Etihad, two at the MCG) will also please the club's loyal band of supporters.
Big Game: None bigger than the first one against the Demons at the MCG. Never mind the Clark factor, an early-season win against a side tipped for big things could be the spark the Lions need for an improved season.
