A selection of young Vodafone Brisbane Lions players are starting to look beyond their football careers by commencing trade apprenticeship programs in their spare time away from the Club.

The Lions have embraced a new initiative from AFL SportsReady Limited which aims to provide flexible opportunities for Elite Athletes to develop employment skills and establish a successful career outside of sport.

The Trade Apprenticeships for Life After Sport – Sporting Trade Skills Program is a joint initiative with the Federal Government, Group Training Australia and AFL SportsReady and is available throughout Australia to all Elite Athletes belonging to sporting clubs and organisations.

The Lions are now searching for organisations that may wish to explore the possibility of placing one of our players within their industry on an apprenticeship program.

In particular, the Club is searching for builders and plumbers that are willing to teach one of our Lions players their trade. In return, your organisation will develop a strong association with the Club while receiving regular hands-on assistance from one of our eager-to-learn players.

Should your organisation be interested in further information about the Program, please contact Lions Player Welfare Manager Craig Lambert on 07 3335 1737.
