The Brisbane Lions AFC has confirmed Captain Jonathan Brown will miss the remainder of the 2011 AFL Season through injury.
Brown was today released from hospital following successful surgery for facial injuries sustained on Sunday.
The Lions can confirm the surgery involved the successful removal and replacement of a small plate that had been inserted over his jaw following his Round One collision earlier this year.
A number of small fractures in Brown’s jaw were also identified.
The Club’s medical advice is that these will heal on their own over the next few months and he will make a full recovery.
Lions General Manager - Football Operations, Dean Warren, said Brown would now set himself for a big pre-season.
“While it’s disappointing that Jonathan will not to be playing again this year, he’ll enter the pre-season with his body in a healthy state, which is something he hasn’t been able to do for quite some time,” said Warren.
“Jonathan’s long-term health and wellbeing has been the Club’s primary concern and he’ll have the best support to ensure that when he does return he’ll be in the best possible shape.”
Brisbane Lions would again like to politely request that all media respect Brown and his family’s right to privacy at this time.
The Club will advise the media of an appropriate time for Brown to be made available for interview.
