BRISBANE Lions coach Michael Voss will put no extra emphasis on Jason Akermanis when he returns to the Gabba with the Western Bulldogs on Saturday night.

Voss downplayed any special attention for Akermanis, saying the Bulldogs had too many weapons to focus on just one player.

Since leaving the Lions at the end of 2006, Akermanis has played at the Gabba twice for a 1-1 record.

He is the leading goalkicker for the Bulldogs this year, however with the return of Robert Murphy and Scott Welsh from injury, Voss said they have more than one man to worry about.

“We can’t give too much of our energy on one player because we’ve got to make sure we’re all up and we’re all going and that we’ve got the style and brand of footy we want to be able to put in place,” he said.

“If you focus all your energies on one particular player, then others slip under your guard and that’s what the Bulldogs can do.

“They’ve got a lot of great finishers ... being able to spread the load is what they’re able to do very, very well. They can get two or three goals out of a lot of players.”

It’s an area of the game Voss said he hoped the Lions could emulate.

Despite going goal-less for the first time this season in last week’s draw against Essendon, Jonathan Brown has often been the primary source of goals in 2009.

Voss said the Lions were creating enough chances they just needed more consistent contributions from a variety of sources.

He also hoped to build on the club’s improving home record which stands at 7-2 so far this season, with the only losses coming against Collingwood and Carlton.

“The games we’ve played here we’ve certainly been there at the finish and that’s all you can ever ask,” he said.
