Lions Captain Jonathan Brown has regrettably had to cancel a planned trip to Melbourne this weekend after a graze on his knee became infected.

The infection will require constant medical attention over the next few days and prohibits the three-time Club Champion flying to Melbourne to be part of the Club’s Victorian Family Fun Day at Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

Lions fans can rest easy though, as this latest setback is only relatively minor and should not affect Brown’s pre-season preparations.

He still plans to get at least one practice match under his belt before the Lions’ season opener against Fremantle at the Gabba.

Lions General Manager of Football Operations Dean Warren said while Brown’s late omission was not ideal for the Club’s fans in Victoria, it was necessary for him to make a speedy recovery.

“Browny is a proud Victorian and was very much looking forward to heading down there with the NAB Cup team, but these latest circumstances were unforeseen,” Warren said.

“It’s disappointing for our fans in Melbourne, but it’s in the best interests of the team and the Club for him to get himself right before the season starts.”
