The Lions will wear their 2020 Indigenous guernsey in front of a home crowd against St Kilda in round 13.

The AFL has released the fixtures for the Sir Doug Nicholls Round and it will be a return to the Gabba on Sunday August 23, at 3.35pm.

Emerging star Callum Ah Chee said the players loved the opportunity to wear the Indigenous guernsey each season and it was exciting they fixtures allowed them to do it at the Gabba.

“It means so much for us boys to be able to put on the Indigenous guernsey in such a special round that celebrates our people and our culture,’’ he said.

“And its even better to be able to wear it on the Gabba in front of our supporters, we can’t wait.’’

Ah Chee’s Totem, a Kwoora or Wallaby, features on the jumper alongside the individual totems of each of the Lions’ Indigenous AFL and AFLW players.

On the front of the guernsey designed by veteran Allen Christensen, the Totems which tell the stories of each players family or clan history, circle a Lion.

Flying foxes, emus, lizards and sharks are some of the Totems of the Lions’ current Indigenous players.

Christensen said each player had a unique heritage and the use of Totems on the design allowed the club to celebrate the individuality of the Indigenous players.

By connecting the Totems with dot art he was able to illustrate the merging of different cultures together at the Club.
