Lions coach Chris Fagan has signaled his intention to ramp up the pressure against Geelong by selecting tackling machine Tom Berry in the side to take on Geelong on Friday night.
The younger brother of established midfielder Jarrod broke through for six senior games last season and has pushed his way back into the side on the back of a starring hit-out in the practice match against fellow VFL side Aspley last weekend.
Berry kicked the winning goal on the siren, but it is his renowned pressure and the hard-edged approach he shares with his older sibling that Fagan will be calling on against the Cats.
He replaces Keidean Coleman as the only change to the side that took on Sydney in Round One.
The Lions have not won at the Cats’ home ground since the Club’s last premiership winning season in 2003.
Over that time Geelong have established an enviable record on their home patch but Fagan says those are the types of challenges his side has come to relish.
“It's been such a fortress for them for such a long time,’’ he said.
“We haven't played there since 2018. I think we were in the game at half-time and ended up losing by seven goals with a very young side.
“We embrace those challenges. We like trying to win at venues we haven't won at for a long time.
“That's no different this week, that's a good motivation.’’
