Lions Supporters ‘Reaching Out’
The Brisbane Lions Supporters Club on the Sunshine Coast provides local Lions fans with an opportunity to meet and socialise regularly.
They are directly aligned with the Brisbane Lions AFC and assist by promoting the Club in the area and coordinating low-cost bus services to help get local members to and from Gabba home games.
The supporters group meets at 7pm on the first Tuesday of every month (February to September) at the Caloundra Power Boat Club to discuss the Lions and hear from special guest speakers.
In addition to their support for the Lions, the BLSCSC also plays an active role in the community.
Their Reaching Out program was set up in 2008 to help remote indigenous communities by supplying them with a range of sporting equipment.
The project was designed to extend friendship and goodwill to indigenous communities through a mutual interest of AFL and sport in general.
Through their partnership with the Lions, the AFL and the CAPE PCYC program, they have been able to identify those communities who are most in need of their support and assistance.
While the Supporters Club receives ongoing assistance from the Brisbane Lions and local businesses on the Sunshine Coast, they also raise money among their members through garage sales, raffles and donations.
The BLSCSC remain committed to ‘Reaching Out’ to these remote indigenous communities and invite other local Lions fans to be part of their great cause.
