The Blues wouldn’t look too fondly at the week that was, while the Lions have ‘found their form'.
It makes Saturday’s game an interesting spectacle, with the Lions keen to prove their inconsistent form is an anomaly, while David Teague’s Blues have a point to make if they wish to get the monkey off their back.
3. Out of Form v Finding Form
While Carlton have been immersed in a week of criticism, Lions coach Chris Fagan has been an unlikely ally, stating that the Blues are always a dangerous opposition to come up against.
“I don’t make of Carlton what everyone else is making of them this week. They were within eight points of Richmond, within nine of Collingwood.”
Lions fans will be wary of a struggling Blues side. They'll remember back to 2019, where destructive midfielder Patrick Cripps had 38 touches and kicked 4 goals in an upset victory at Marvel Stadium.
Meanwhile, Brisbane will be looking at Saturday’s clash as a must-win as they look to continue their impressive form found in last week’s win over Essendon.
2. The Worsfold Method
Blues Head Coach, David Teague has turned to experienced AFL coach John Worsfold for advice and guidance as he looks to get his side back on track this season.
Teague was appointed as an assistant coach at West Coast in 2011 where he served two years under Worsfold.
The former Eagles and Bombers coach will be in “regular contact with the coaching group and attend select games during the year in a mentorship capacity.”
While the decision has been met with mixed reviews, it’s hoped that Worsfold’s knowledge and expertise will be a valuable inclusion to the Blues coaching unit.
1. Half-Back Dash
One dilemma that may face Chris Fagan come selection time is the Blues speed off half back.
Adam Saad looks an exciting match-up for Charlie Cameron, while Zac Williams may create headaches in the Brisbane coaching box if he's positioned behind the ball.
It makes for an interesting battle between speed and size, as Fagan's tall forwards will be looking to dominate the air while finding a balance between creating opportunity for the likes of Cameron and Bailey, while nullifying the impact of Carlton's speedsters.
