Our Club Champion’s all polled votes in last night’s Brownlow Medal count with Dayne Beams leading our count with 9 votes in total.

After a year rattled with injury the Lions players still had some outstanding performances throughout the year, which were suitably recognised in the poll count.

To kick things off, Daniel Rich polled three votes in Round 1 against Collingwood after a standout performance late in the match that made for a nail-biting finish for spectators.

Round 1: D.Rich 3 (BL); S.Sidebottom 2 (COLL); S.Pendlebury (COLL)

Our Round 6 match against Carlton saw Dayne Beams claim one vote and Stefan Martin, two.

The boys were in the Lions’ best against the Blues as we came from 14 points down midway through the third term to lead by as many as 21 points in the final quarter.

Round 6: T.Bell 3 (CARL); S.Martin* 2 (BL); D.Beams 1 (BL)

Round 7 and the Lions played Port Adelaide with Beams taking the top spot, polling three votes and Stefan Martin, one, in a game that was titled the biggest upset of the 2015 AFL season.

Our pressure, intensity and workrate were all class and gave us the edge to claim a stunning 37-point victory at the Gabba.

Dayne Beams earned his votes as best-on-ground with 32 disposals and seven clearances.

It was in this match that ruckman Stefan Martin was given a two-week suspension for striking Adelaide’s Luke Brown.

Martin was charged with intentional conduct with medium impact to the head/neck. The offence was classified as a three-match sanction yet an early plea reduced the penalty to a two-match ban.

As such, Stefan was deemed ineligible to win the 2015 Brownlow Medal.

Round 23: P.Hanley 3 (BL); S.Martin* 2 (BL); T.Rockliff 1 (BL)

Despite a tough year rattled with injury, our players were rewarded for their performances in each round.
