The Brisbane Lions will celebrate the club’s proud history and most recent success when the AFLW side returns to Victoria this weekend.
The reigning premiers will wear Fitzroy guernseys in Sunday’s clash with St Kilda at Trevor Barker Oval, Sandringham.
The Lions have never met the Saints in an AFLW match and are desperate to begin a new rivalry with a win.
The Fitzroy guernsey had served as an away strip until 2020 and coach Craig Starcevich said the side welcomed the opportunity to wear it once again on their first trip to Victoria this season.
“We’ve been a side that travels well, so as a coach I guess I associate that jumper with some important wins over the years,’’ he said.
“And there is also nod to Fitzroy, we’re a club with a long history and a loyal supporter base in Victoria and we really enjoy the opportunity to acknowledge that history.’’
The Lions’ will also take the opportunity to celebrate the breakthrough premiership win with Victorian fans for the first time.
Following the match, the 2021 AFLW Premiership Cup will be presented to fans at the Sandringham Club by premiership winning assistant coach Brent Staker.
Staker will spend an hour at the Club where he can answer questions on the premiership triumph over the Crows and fans can take photos with the Cup.
The Sandringham Club is at 92 Beach Rd, Sandringham, just a short walk from the stadium.
Admission is free.
