Belle Dawes has put the competition on alert with her game in recent weeks.
The dynamic midfielder is taking every opportunity to rip in to her opponents and is producing close to some of her best football yet.
Her performance against Geelong in Round 4 showed signs of what was to come, with Dawes gathering 12 possessions (seven contested), seven tackles and four clearances.
Two weeks later, she was back at it again with 16 possessions (10 contested), five intercepts, three marks and two tackles and two score involvements saw Dawes rightly named as MVP of the Week in the Lions’ Round 6 clash against St Kilda.
While Thursday’s performance against the Suns saw Dawes collect a massive 17 disposals, with six score involvements, four tackles and three intercepts also to her name in the 69-point win.
With fans looking forward to the possibility of another strong game from Dawes on Monday night, the hardened midfielder will have even more reason to fight for a win against Melbourne as she celebrates her 25th AFLW career game.
Looking back on her AFLW journey so far, Dawes credits the team around her for getting her game to where it is now.
“Right now with where I’m at with my footy, I’m just taking in being in the midfield and around players like Ally Anderson and Emily Bates,”
“Getting to learn off them and figure out way to work as a team with them, it’s just making my game grow.
“Looking back at the start my career and the relationships I’ve built within the team and how much I’ve learnt, how much fitter I’ve gotten, those are the highlights.
“That’s something that stands out to me, is just how much I’ve grown as a footy player and as a person at this Club.
