Rockliff leads all Lions
Dream Team points were tough to come by in last Sunday's NAB Cup match.
More than 300 teams have already signed up to test their fantasy football skills against Lions players Ash McGrath, Jed Adcock and Justin Sherman.
Matthew Hayne (coach of “Jeds Army”) and Jarrod MacCulloch (coach of “The Shermanators”) are ready to go head-to-head against their actual team namesakes while Melissa Wilden (coach of “Vossalicious”) and Shaun Emerson (coach of “SuperFev”) are among others who have creatively used their favourites Lions as part of their team.
The competition is FREE to join with registrations closing 5pm Thursday 25 March 2010. Spaces in the Lions’ private group are unlimited until this date so be sure to extend the invitation to friends and family.
The rules are quite simple for those new to the AFL Dream Team concept.
You select 30 real players from across the AFL and based on their actual performances each round, your team scores points according to each of your selected players' stats. Your team is then ranked among the opposing teams in the competition.
Players are awarded points for each kick (3 points), handball (1 point), mark (3 points), hitout (1 point), tackle (4 points), goal (6 points), behind (1 point) and free kick for (1 point). However, three points are deducted for every free kick your player gives away.
The team with the highest aggregate score after Round 22 will win a 2010 team-signed Lions guernsey and supreme bragging rights while the Runner-Up will take home a team-signed Sherrin footy. The third placed team will receive a Lions merchandise pack.
Points were tough to come by for players from both teams in the Lions’ first-round NAB Cup loss to the Western Bulldogs last Sunday at Canberra’s Manuka Oval - the slippery conditions were certainly not conducive to a free-flowing, high-possession contest.
Second year midfielder/forward Tom Rockliff collected a game-high 25 disposals and led the Lions players with 87 Dream Team points closely followed by Justin Sherman who booted three goals to earn 84 points.
Michael Rischitelli was the third best Lion with 80 points while new recruit Amon Buchanan netted 68 points.
The Lions will play three more NAB Challenge practice matches over the next month so be sure to keep posted to www.lions.com.au to study the players’ early season form and determine whether they are worthy for selection in your team before the regular season commences.
Some of the Lions players and staff will also share some of their own Dream Team hints and tips with visitors to the Club’s official website over the next couple of weeks.
Fans have already had the opportunity to have their say in the Club’s recent online poll question which asked - “Which Lions defender presents the greatest value in the 2010 Dream Team competition?”
Josh Drummond ($333,500) was considered the best valued defender with 28% of the votes while former St Kilda centre half-back Matt Maguire ($101,700) ranked second with 20% of the total votes.
Lions full-back Daniel Merrett ($199,300) was voted third best ahead of Dream Team participant Jed Adcock ($371,400).
Stay tuned to www.lions.com.au in the coming days as we invite fans to rate the Lions’ best midfield prospects in the 2010 AFL Dream Team competition.
