Curtain raisers will return to the Gabba for the first time since 2010, with the Brisbane Lions Reserves set to host two NEAFL clashes at their home ground over the next month.
The Lions can confirm that the Reserves’ Round 13 and Round 15 NEAFL fixtures have been changed as follows:
NEAFL Round 13
Brisbane Lions Reserves v Aspley Hornets
Saturday 28 June 2014
The Gabba @ 3:30pm (previously Burpengary @ 1:30pm)
- prior to the Round 15 AFL match between the Brisbane Lions and North Melbourne at 7:40pm
NEAFL Round 15
Brisbane Lions Reserves v NT Thunder
Saturday 12 July 2014
The Gabba @ 3:30pm (previously Coorparoo @ 1:30pm)
- prior to the Round 17 AFL match between the Brisbane Lions and West Coast at 7:40pm
The fixture change comes after the Brisbane Lions Reserves trialled a ‘curtain closure’ game at the Gabba earlier this season against the Sydney Swans.
The upcoming curtain raiser matches will not only provide some of the younger Lions players with a rare opportunity to play at a first-class AFL stadium, but also gives fans the chance to see both the senior and reserve side play in succession at the same venue.
Public entrance for the above fixtures will be through Gate 2 only, with gates opening from 3:15pm.
All patrons will require a full AFL match ticket to gain access to the NEAFL curtain raisers
The Club hopes that all members and supporters take advantage of these rare Gabba curtain raiser, and encourages all fans to arrive earlier than usual to cheer on both Lions teams.
