The Brisbane Lions are excited to announce the signing of forward Brooke Sheridan, replacing the injured Luka Yoshida-Martin to complete the Club’s AFLW playing list for 2023.
The Lions Academy product missed her draft year with an ACL, returning as an overage player to represent Brisbane in the Coates League and Queensland in the recent National AFLW Under-18 Championships, whilst also plying her trade for University of Queensland in the QAFLW.
Brisbane Lions AFLW head coach Craig Starcevich said he is stoked to have a complete playing list confirmed going into the final practice game.
“We are really excited to have Brooke on board for the season and we think she has the key attributes to make an impact at AFLW level,” he said.
“She was a consistent performer for a strong Queensland side this year in a variety of roles and has been impressive in the QAFLW.
“She’ll add another string to our bow in the forward line and we are keen to see her development throughout the year as she spends more time with our AFLW group.”
Known for her ability to find space on the lead, Sheridan also has strong hands overhead, is very clean at ground-level, and has exceptional kicking skills.
The 18-year-old has a high impact with ball in hand and is reliable in front of goal, particularly on the move.
Thrown behind the ball at times for Queensland, Sheridan showed great efficiency by foot and a willingness to play whatever role is required by the team.
Yoshida-Martin has been moved to the inactive list for the 2023 NAB AFLW Season following her ACL injury during the preseason.
The Lions will also officially welcome Irish recruit Jennifer Dunne to Brisbane on Friday morning fresh from winning her fourth All Ireland Championship with Dublin on Sunday in front of 45,326.
With their AFLW playing list now finalised, the Lions turn their attention to the Gold Coast SUNS who travel to Brighton Homes Arena for the final practice match ahead of the 2023 NAB AFLW Season.
The Lions start their 2023 NAB AFLW Season against the Richmond Tigers at Brighton Homes Arena on Sunday 3 September.
