Darcy Gardiner will miss the remainder of the season after requiring a shoulder and ankle reconstruction.
The 21-year old was subbed out early in the loss to the Swans on Sunday after dislocating his shoulder.
He will undergo multiple rounds of surgery from next week.
In a further blow, Ryan Lester will spend at least 6-8 weeks sidelined with a knee injury sustained in the Reserves’ loss to the Swans at Coorparoo.
However in better news for some returning Lions – Daniel Merrett, Tom Rockliff and Pearce Hanley – all got through Sunday’s match without any injury concerns.
While at Coorparoo, Trent West and Jonathan Freeman took to the field for the first time this season.
It was West’s first game since round 11 2014. The 28-year old underwent a reconstruction to his left knee in June last year.
Freeman was set to return earlier this season from back surgery before he suffered a setback rolling his ankle at training and had been sidelined since mid-May.
