Overcast conditions and a sprinkling of rain didn’t dampen the mood of thousands of Brisbane Lions supporters who attended the Club’s Family Day held at Sherwood Football Club in Chelmer on Saturday.
The afternoon began with the 2016 player jumper presentation where Lions members were handpicked to hand over their favourite players’ guernsey for the new season.
Senior Coach Justin Leppitsch introduced each of the players to the crowd, with Captain Tom Rockliff last to take to the podium to officially open the afternoon’s activities.
The players and coaches were then put to work through a range of activities, which included handball targets, a photo booth and signing table. Players were also taking memberships and selling merchandise to fans.

Club legend and assistant coach Simon Black was a popular attraction, posing for photos and signing autographs almost three years after his football retirement!
The Brisbane Lions would like to thank Reid St. Kitchen, Koffy Trike, That BBQ Joint, Steam’d, Fairy Floss N’ Sno Kones and Hyundai who provided fans and staff with tasty treats during the afternoon.
The Club would also like to thank Sherrin, Hart Sport, Triple M, Foxtel, AFL Q, Mater Hospital, Coast to Coast Earthmoving, Amazing Fun Parties and Events and Izid Entertainment for their help in making the day so successful.
