Here is 2016 shortlist so far:
Zorko's 100thThe Magician has been a standout player all season and nabbed plenty of energetic goals this year. During our Round 21 win against Carlton he kicked 3 goals in one half, the third being his 100th AFL goal. Zorks was also just one game away from his 100th AFL games (all for the Brisbane Lions). 100 goals in less than 100 games... not too shabby.
Piercing PearceThe boys and the Gabba crowd turned it up a notch after Steven May's knockout hit on Stef Martin that ultimately got him suspended. Our local Irishman then lifted the club even further with this running goal from 50 on his way to the 2016 Marcus Ashcroft Medal - and the first win of the season for Brisbane.
Schache's First Six at the GabbaWe've had plenty of debutants who've proven their worth this year. Perhaps the most pressure though, was on number 2 draft pick and son of a fomer Brisbane Lion Josh Schache.
Merrett's Big Tackle on FranklinThree points down with just over five minutes to go. Daniel Merrett wraps up Lance Franklin, saving an almost definite goal. Not even the Big Sauce knew it would be his last game against Buddy. Upon announcing his retirement recently, Merrett named Franklin and another former Swan, Barry Hall, as his two toughest oponents in his career. Whilst we just missed out on the win against Sydney, those comments from Merrett make this crucial tackle even more impressive. |
