Brisbane Lions midfielder Daniel Rich says his prolific game against St Kilda on Sunday was a "small step" in his development.
Rich is now in his ninth season with the Lions, and had a self-confessed disappointing opening fortnight, in which he tallied just 12 and 14 disposals respectively against Gold Coast and Essendon.
But the 26-year-old thrived when stationed in the back half against the Saints at Etihad Stadium, finishing with an equal career-high 32 touches.
With the most penetrating kick in the club – and one of the best in the League – Rich doesn't need to have huge numbers to make an impact, but his round three showing was a step forward.
"It was an improvement, but it's just one game, and we play 22 games and hopefully finals," he said.
"One game is one game, but I'm glad I did take that small step.
"The first two weeks were disappointing, but I'd definitely take the W (win) over anything else."

Rich said the Lions' coaching staff had been a big reason in his improved showing.
"It's not so much about me, they had faith in me and encouraged me during the week, gave me a lot of positive reinforcement, so it's a whole combined effort," he said.
Rich gets a chance to consolidate his form against Richmond at the Gabba on Sunday.
He said the Lions would need to tidy up their ball movement and continue their attack on the ball to beat the unbeaten Tigers.
"We go into every game giving ourselves a good chance and that positive mindset we can match it with any side, but they're playing pretty well," he said.
"They're in a great position but we're excited about playing here in front of our home fans."
