St Kilda bounced back from a heavy loss to the Swans a fortnight ago with a nine-point win over Richmond at the MCG on Saturday afternoon.
It wasn’t pretty, but St Kilda edged north to sit at a 11-10 win-loss record with one game to play and their equal best finish since 2012 on the horizon.
The Saints score of 55 was the lowest by a winning team this season. While the match goal accuracy of 31.7 per cent was the worst of any game this year.
Meanwhile, the Lions produced arguably their best quarter of the season but it wasn't enough to stop Geelong shoring up third spot with a convincing 60-point win at the Gabba.
Injury News
St Kilda will be forced at least one change at selection this week, with key forward Paddy McCartin suffering a broken collarbone in the Saints’ win over Richmond on Saturday.
Cameron Shenton kicked three goals for Sandringham to continue his good form. He is equal second place in the Frosty Miller Medal for leading goal kicker in the VFL and could replace the injured McCartin.
Key defender Sam Fisher (hamstring) and ruckman, Queenslander, Tom Hickey (calf) will have to prove their fitness ahead of Sunday’s clash with the Lions.
34-year-old Fisher’s contract expires at season's end and if selected Sunday afternoon it could be his farewell game for the Saints.
On St Kilda’s radar should be potential debutant Brandon White. The defender was an emergency for the senior team last week and gathered 26 disposals and a goal in the VFL last Sunday.
