Brisbane young gun Lewis Taylor has been a preseason stand-out and he is determined to make 2016 something special.
The 20-year-old has not missed a game since making his AFL debut in Round 1, 2014 and said there was no secret to his unbroken run of 44 consecutive senior games.
“I just try and do all the little things right with my recovery, eating right and training hard. You need a little luck along the way too,’’ he told The Courier-Mail.
Taylor expects to spend more time across half-forward in 2016. Injury hampered his pre-season last year but he has had a clear run through summer to be one of Brisbane’s best on the training track.
“I’d be happy to swap a few possessions for goals. We want to kick 100 points every week so we need goals from as many people as possible so hopefully I can get amongst it,’’ he said.
The 2014 Rising Star winner also said he had learned his lesson from a brush with the law and court appearance over the preseason.
Taylor said he let himself and football fans down with his self-confessed “silly’’ actions and going through the legal process was a sobering reminder of his status as a role model.
“The most disappointing thing is I like to set the right example for young kids who love the game and want to play the game,” said Taylor.
“It’s on me to make up for that and I’m positive I will.
“It dragged on through the year and I didn’t know when it would all happen but I had a lot of great help and support and it was a relief to have it taken care of.
“I went down there, faced up to it and accepted responsibility. I’m keen to put it behind me, move on and play some good footy for the Lions.’’
